Prioritizing yourself is something I’d say I’ve been learning over the years. I can’t say I’m completely there yet—there are still parts of me that resist it. But I’m more aware now. More intentional.
You can care deeply for someone and still choose to keep your distance. Not because you hate them. But because you’ve realized they’re just not good for you. Personally, emotionally, energetically.
I’ve seen this even in my own family. I used to wonder why I barely knew my cousins or nephews—or why we weren’t more connected. But the few times the family comes together, I start to understand. I see the dynamics. I see the quiet tensions. I realize why my parents created certain boundaries.
Dealing with people will always be a lot. It’s part of life. But we all need to learn how to set that fine line—the one between being kind and sacrificing ourselves in the process.
There’s only so much a person can take.
So please, love people. Be good. But never forget to put yourself first.
It’s too important not to
